Unveiling the Secret Beauty of Zimbabwe's Coloured Stones
Founded in the 1980s by geologist Jean Rheiner, Chidolite Gems & Lapidaries began with a simple goal: celebrate Zimbabwe's exceptional coloured stones while preserving traditional lapidary skills. From our earliest years, we have worked closely with local artisans to refine cutting and polishing techniques that bring out the best in every stone.
To sustain this craft, we prioritized knowledge transfer and mentorship. Master lapidarist Anthony Marazamunda took on apprentices at Jean Rheiner's invitation, creating a legacy of skill and dedication. Those early efforts have shaped our workshop's values and practices.
Today the Chidolite workshop combines experienced artisanship with purposeful investment in tools and training. A concerted modernization in 2023 refreshed our equipment and strengthened our community of makers while keeping the essence of traditional craftsmanship.
We transform locally sourced stones into beautifully finished products faceted gems, cabochons, beads, and tumbled stones each reflecting careful workmanship and the natural character of Zimbabwe's minerals.
We transform raw Zimbabwean stones into:
